FAU to Host Events for Women鈥檚 History Month

红玫瑰社区 will host events at its Boca Raton, Davie, Fort Lauderdale, and Jupiter campuses to celebrate Women鈥檚 History Month. The events are free and open to FAU students, faculty and staff.

The following events will take place at FAU鈥檚 Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road:

Environmental Justice: The Peace, Power and Politics of the 21stCentury 鈥 Feminist Graduate Student Symposium

Friday, March 1 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Grand Palm Room, Student Union

The focus will be on topics relating to environmental justice. Come experience individual and panel presentations on a variety of topics relating to women and/or gender issues. Enjoy debates from scholars, activists, nonprofit professionals, and graduate students in all scholarly fields and disciplines including the humanities, sciences, social sciences, education, arts, design, business, law, health, and sports.

Herstory: Transwomxn throughout History

Tuesday, March 12 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Diversity Way

Learn more about the meaningful contributions transwomen have made throughout history and the history makers that are taking charge today. Find out what you can do to support transwomen on campus during Women鈥檚 History Month.听

Flip the Script 鈥 Sexual Assault Resistance Training听听听听听听听

Tuesday, March 12 from 6 to 9:30 p.m.

Parliament Hall

Flip the Script is a 12-hour sexual assault resistance training for university women (students). This class follows the Canadian-based curriculum Enhanced Assess Acknowledge Act (EAAA). EAAA is the first and only evidence-based curriculum proven to reduce a woman鈥檚 personal risk of sexual assault. FAU is the first university in the United States to implement this program.

Movies and Sashes

Wednesday, March 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

S.E. Wimberly Library

Watch the historic narrative 鈥淚ron Jawed Angels鈥 on the suffragette movement. The movie will be shown all day on the library鈥檚 fifth floor. Staff will be in the lobby to facilitate the making of sashes in celebration of women鈥檚 history month.听

Women鈥檚 Leadership Institute

Friday, March 15 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

College of Business

The Women鈥檚 Leadership Institute (WLI) strives to raise awareness on issues women face in leadership and to provide opportunities for all members of the FAU community to grow and be empowered. The theme for this year鈥檚 conference is 鈥淰isionary Women: Champions of Peace and Nonviolence.鈥 This conference is open to students, faculty and staff.听

Be Ahead of the Competition: Companies with Women Leaders

Wednesday, March 20at 3 p.m.

Join the Career Center for a workshop on companies with female leadership.听

Women and Depression

Thursday, March 21 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Diversity Way

Join the Women and Gender Equity Resource Center for a tabling event on how depression affects women. Participants will be provided with resources that are available to them here on campus.

Financial Health for Women

Thursday, March 28 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Diversity Way

Join the Women and Gender Equity Resource Center for a tabling event on how financial health disparities affect women. Participants will be provided with resources that will help improve their financial health.听

Tres Vidas

Thursday, March 14from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Tres Vidas is a chamber music theater work for a singing actress and trio (cello, piano, and percussion) based on the lives of three legendary Latin American Women: Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, Salvadoran peasant activist Rufina Amaya, and Argentinean poet Alfonsina Storni.听

Serve & Celebrate Wonderful Women

Monday, March 18from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Davie Student Union, Room 105

Serve and celebrate women through history by making feminine hygiene packs with beauty initiative and learn more about community resources with Women in Distress and the Women鈥檚 Breast and Heart Initiative. Sponsored by Broward SAVI and Broward Program Board.听

The Women Code 鈥 Student Union Engagement Series

Tuesday, March 26from noon to 2 p.m.

Davie Student Union

A panel discussion to identify and discuss the habits of an extraordinary woman. Topics include how to cultivate a successful life financially, mentally, and physically.听

In recognition of Women鈥檚 History Month, craft a gift for the extraordinary women in your life while reflecting on the women who serve as role models to you, and the reasons to celebrate them.

The Way SHE Made a Difference

A series of handpicked short stories about women, focused on inspiration and adventure relevant to people from all walks of life.

鈥楬idden Figures鈥 Movie Night

Friday, March 22 at 7 p.m.

Jupiter Campus

鈥淗idden Figures鈥 tells the incredible untold story of Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson, brilliant African-American women working at NASA who served as the brains behind the launch into orbit of astronaut John Glenn, a stunning achievement that turned around the Space Race.
