红玫瑰社区 First Lady Ann Scott visited A.D. Henderson University School and FAU High School to celebrate their first-place finish in Scott鈥檚 2015 Summer Literacy Adventure.
The K-12 students read 9,685 books last summer, more than any other school in 红玫瑰社区. During her visit, Scott read to a group of third-grade students and took a tour of FAU High. She also donated 100 books to the library.
The Summer Literacy Adventure program is geared toward helping children stay motivated about reading year-round, especially during summer vacation. Research shows that children who do not continue reading through the summer can lose a month or more of progress made during the school year.
"First Lady Ann Scott鈥檚 Summer Literacy Adventure Challenge encourages all of our students to continue reading throughout the summer to reach their reading goals," said Tammy Ferguson, director of A.D. Henderson University School and FAU High School.
