Arun Gandhi felt it was important to share his grandfather’s views on nonviolence, forgiveness, and peaceful revolution. In honor of India’s legendary leader, Mohandas K. “Mahatma” Gandhi’s birthday, the FAU Peace, Justice and Human Rights Initiative along with Auroras Voice and Gandhi Square hosted Gandhi’s grandson for an inspirational lecture.

Arun Gandhi is the fifth grandson of Mahatma Gandhi. Through daily lessons from his grandfather, Arun says, he learned about the danger of violence and anger. Arun shares these lessons all around the world and is involved in social programs and writing, working for 30 years as a journalist for The Times of India and as an author of several books.

“The Peace, Justice and Human Rights Initiative at FAU was very pleased to work with several community partners in sponsoring Arun Gandhi’s talk,” said Steven Roper, Ph.D., executive director of the Peace, Justice and Human Rights Initiative. “His message of peace and breaking the cycle of passive violence was appreciated by all who attended. During these times with so much violence, his call to action to encourage peace renewed everyone’s energy to promote a better world.”
