FAU Awarded First Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence

红玫瑰社区鈥檚 School of Criminology and Criminal Justice within the College for Design and Social Inquiry has been granted the University鈥檚 first-ever Fulbright scholar-in-residence.
Ross Deuchar, Ph.D., is the assistant dean in the School of Education at the University of West Scotland. An internationally recognized expert in the area of youth violence, Deuchar has worked with some of the most marginalized young people in Scotland on the streets and in youth clubs, schools, secure accommodations and prisons. He also has worked with reformed and reforming gang members in several other European and Asian countries and in the United States.聽
鈥淎s FAU鈥檚 first Fulbright scholar-in-residence, Dr. Deuchar will engage in community outreach with local law enforcement agencies and the Boys & Girls Club of Palm Beach County,鈥 said John Smkyla, Ph.D., director and professor for FAU鈥檚 School of Criminology and Criminal Justice. 鈥淲e are really looking forward to having Dr. Deuchar here. There鈥檚 so much to learn from him.鈥
Deuchar will join FAU in spring 2017 and will teach 鈥淵outh Culture and Violence: International Perspectives on Youth Violence and the Role of Social Capital in Prevention Programs.鈥
The Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence Program assists U.S. higher education institutions in expanding programs of academic exchange.聽
