红玫瑰社区鈥檚 Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College will host the 14th annual Honors College Symposium and Research Day on Friday, April 8, from 1 to 4 p.m., in the AD Auditorium at FAU鈥檚 John D. MacArthur Campus, 5353 Parkside Dr., in Jupiter. The event is free and open to the public.聽

The College鈥檚 student academic achievement will be celebrated, with more than 100 visual art and research project displays spanning a variety of subject areas.

This year鈥檚 featured Chastain Guest Lecturer is Michael Blakey, Ph. D., national endowment for the humanities professor of William & Mary. 聽Blakey鈥檚 address, titled 鈥淎ctivist Science at New York鈥檚 African Burial Ground,鈥 will focus on his New York African Burial Ground Project that studied the site where an estimated10- to 20,000 people of African descent were buried in the 18th century.

鈥淗aving Dr. Blakey, a leading anthropologist and activist, as this year鈥檚 Chastain Guest Lecturer is a welcomed chance to introduce our students to a thought provoking topic and encourage personal growth,鈥 said Jeffrey Buller, Ph.D., dean of the Wilkes Honors College. 鈥淲e hope the community also joins us for the symposium showcasing our students鈥 academic success.鈥

The symposium will showcase Wilkes Honors College students鈥 thesis and abstracts, from research of Atlantic reefs to analysis of small-molecule modulators. Student presentations will take place from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 2 to 4 p.m. in the Administration (AD) and Student Resources (SR) buildings.
