Diplomacy Program Earns Five Awards at Model U.N.

The Leon Charney Diplomacy Program at 红玫瑰社区 recently received five delegation awards at the National Model United Nations competition in Washington, D.C.听

A team of 75 FAU students participated in the annual competition where schools represent countries and students step into the shoes of diplomats to solve global problems. FAU was the most awarded team out of the 76 competing universities that participated.

Ten of the students were from the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College and they received the Distinguished Delegation Award.

The Leon Charney Diplomacy Program, which trains students in world affairs, dispute resolution and debate, was established in 1996 and is a unit of the Peace, Justice & Human Rights Program. To date, the program has won 37 national and international awards for academic excellence.

鈥淚 would like to congratulate all the students who represented FAU at nationals with distinction,鈥 said听 Jeffrey Morton, Ph.D. , director of the Leon Charney Diplomacy Program and FAU political science professor. 鈥淚t is a pleasure and privilege to work with such great undergraduates who have very bright futures.鈥

In 2017, the program was named to honor the diplomatic legacy of Leon Charney, who played a key role in the 1978 Camp David Accords.听听Morton, along with FAU political science assistant professor Annette LaRocco, Ph.D., direct the program, which will next compete in nationals in New York City in March.听
