FAU Libraries faculty and staff worked to create a digital presentation of items from this world-class collection of more than 13,000 books, pamphlets, government publications, newspapers and serials, including rare works from as early as the 16th century.
鈥淭he Marvin & Sybil Weiner Spirit of America Collection brings the history of the United States and its founding principles to life,鈥 said , dean of FAU Libraries. 鈥淭he ongoing digitization of the collection now makes these rare and unique materials available to researchers and students around the world and reminds us of the hopes and aspirations of our founding fathers.鈥澛
The team created a digital collection of Weiner pamphlets. There are currently 585 pamphlets with more being added every day. This new endeavor greatly expands access and awareness of the Weiner Collection鈥檚 research materials. History researchers, patrons, and students will be able to read the words of the American Revolution, the American Civil War, and even the debates on the U.S. Senate floor as it happened.
鈥淭he Weiner family is delighted and grateful to the FAU Library staff for its ongoing commitment to digitizing our father鈥檚 pamphlet collection,鈥 said Dr. Howard Weiner, son of Marvin and Sybil Weiner. 鈥淚f the ideal 鈥榟ands on鈥 experience is not possible, accessing a digitized pamphlet is a genuine extension of intimacy and authenticity. Our father would be extremely proud.鈥澛
Marvin and Sybil Weiner donated the Spirit of America Collection to 红玫瑰社区 in 2006. The collection is housed in its own suite on the fifth floor of the S.E. Wimberly Library.
