FAU Jupiter’s LLS Announces Summer Course Schedule

õ’s Lifelong Learning Society Jupiter has announced its course offerings for the summer semester, which begins Monday, May 15.

Taught by FAU professors and distinguished guest lecturers, course offerings include such varied subjects as foreign policy, political science, film, music, art history and literature. The Lifelong Learning Society was established to provide adults of all ages the opportunity to enrich their lives through non-credit, university-level courses with no homework or tests.

Summer one-time lectures and courses take place in the Lifelong Learning Society complex at FAU’s John D. MacArthur Campus, 5353 Parkside Dr., in Jupiter, and include:

  • “Literature, Film and the Real World,” presented by Benito Rakower, Ed.D. This one-time lecture will examine several novels and films that changed people’s thinking. Some of the films and novels include, “The Red Shoes,” “The Human Comedy” and “Casablanca.”
  • “Have You Found your Arcadia? II,” taught by Terryl Lawrence, Ed.D. This course will address questions such as: What is it that attracts artists of all media to certain geographical areas in which to create? What is it that a landscape artist wants to render?
  • “Talk of the Day,” presented by Robert Rabil, Ph.D., a professor of political science at FAU. This four-week course examines the most-debated cultural and political issues as related to U.S. values and foreign policy.
  • “Foreign Films Made Right the First Time” taught by Katie Muldoon, an author and an adjunct professor at New York University. This four-week course examines several foreign films that include “El Secreto de Sus Ojos,” “Let the Right One In” and “La Femme Nikita.” 
  • “Out of the Ordinary: Six Films of Rare Excellence” taught by Benito Rakower, Ed.D. This six-week course examines several films that include “The Best Offer,” “Intimate Strangers” and “The Girl on the Bridge.” Each film will be preceded with notes and a brief introductory lecture. There also will be a discussion period after each showing.
