FAU Foundation Board Appoints Seven New Members

The 红玫瑰社区 Foundation Board of Directors has welcomed seven new members.

The 红玫瑰社区 Foundation Board of Directors has welcomed seven new members:听Zachary Berg 鈥97, 鈥00;听Phyllis M. Gladstein, D.Ed.;听Melissa Miller 鈥94, 鈥96, 鈥04; Susan Skemp 鈥81; Cheryl Budd; Maurice Plough Jr.; and Jay Weinberg.

The FAU Foundation听Board is comprised of a dedicated group of alumni and friends of the University who volunteer their time and expertise to spearhead fundraising efforts and manage the Foundation鈥檚 assets.

鈥淚 am pleased to welcome听these seven new members听to the FAU Foundation Board,鈥 said David Kian, interim chief executive officer of the FAU Foundation. 鈥淭heir experience and strengths, combined with their dedication to this University, will greatly听benefit the Foundation and the FAU community as a whole.鈥

Zachary Berg 鈥97, 鈥00, CFP庐听is managing director and portfolio manager at First Republic Investment Management, Inc. in Palm Beach. He is responsible for advising affluent families and institutions, as well as their respective family offices, trusts, estates, foundations and endowments on matters related to the capital markets. Previously, Berg was a relationship manager at Credit Suisse Securities (USA), LLC.听He has more than 13 years of experience in commercial real estate asset/property management, leasing, due diligence and servicer/lender relations as director of operations at American Commercial Realty Corp. Berg received a B.A. in political science from FAU in 1997 and earned an M.B.A. from FAU in 2000.

Phyllis M. Gladstein, D.Ed.听isa child psychoanalyst, professor at Yale University鈥檚 Child Study Center, and on the faculty of the Western New England Institute of Psychoanalysis.听She previously served as vice president of the International Association of Child Psychiatry and the Allied Professions and is an advisor to the Eastern Mediterranean Association of Child Psychiatry, which encompasses the 22 Arab countries. Gladstein earned a D.Ed. from Boston University and trained at the Western New England Institute of Psychoanalysis.

Melissa Miller 鈥94, 鈥96, 鈥04听serves as the director of human resources operations for 红玫瑰社区 Power & Light Company (FPL). She and her team focus on providing HR support to the company鈥檚 leaders and employees across the U.S., Canada and Spain. Miller previously served as the director of employee benefits and services for FPL鈥檚 parent company, NextEra Energy.听She听joined FPL in 1995, where she began her career on the employee services helpline.听Miller earned a B.B.A. in human resources management/personnel administration in 1994, a B.B.A. in finance and marketing in 1996, and an M.B.A. in 2004, all from FAU.

Susan 鈥淪ue鈥 Skemp 鈥81听is the executive director emeritus听for the听Southeast National Marine Renewable Energy Center at FAU. Prior to joining FAU in 2008, she served as the executive vice president for The American Society of Civil Engineers鈥 newly formed Civil Engineering Forum for Innovation and is a past president of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Previously, Skemp spent 31 years with Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, Conn. She has been active at FAU through the Alumni Association Board of Directors. Skemp earned a B.S.M.E. in mechanical engineering from FAU in 1981 and has been inducted into FAU鈥檚 Parliament of OWLs alumni leadership society and the Alumni听Hall of Fame.

Cheryl Budd听is currently the president and CEO of Budd Solutions LLC, a consulting firm. Prior to this, Budd was the chief communications officer at NCCI in West Palm Beach. Her specialties include brand management, messaging, marketing communications government and community relations and media relations among many others. She excels at building winning reputations for both private and Fortune 500 companies. She currently sits as the chair of the Boca Raton Airport Authority and has served on many other business civic and philanthropic boards, including Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce, Golden Ball Foundation, Palm Beach County Literacy Coalition and the Palm Beach County Kidney Association.听 Budd has a bachelor鈥檚 degree in English from James Madison University.

Maurice Plough Jr.听is the president and owner of 红玫瑰社区 Health Consultant. Plough is currently the chair of the advisory board of the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing at FAU. Plough retired in 2015 and prior to that he worked in the healthcare field, law enforcement and private business. He has given his time, both professionally and as a volunteer to many community organizations. Plough has received three bachelor鈥檚 degrees in psychology, sociology and social work from Christian Brothers University.

Jay Weinberg听retired from the practice of law in 2009 and is now chairman emeritus of Hirschler Fleischer law firm. He has been selected as one of听Virginia Lawyers Weekly鈥檚听鈥淟eaders in the Law鈥 and was honored for his leadership in the development of the Nuremburg courtroom reconstructed at the Virginia Holocaust Museum. Weinberg is a former president of the Jewish Community Federation of Richmond, Congregation Beth Ahabah and the Jewish Community Center, and was involved in the establishment of the Virginia Biotech Research Park and Virginia Commonwealth University鈥檚 School of Engineering. He previously was a full board member for the FAU Foundation from 2012-14. 听

Continuing their service as members of the Foundation Board鈥檚 executive committee are Patricia McKay 鈥78 as chair and Stewart Martin 鈥89 as vice chair. Former secretary Christopher Fluehr was elected second vice chair, a new officer position. The secretary is now Ed Sabin and the board treasurer and chair of the finance committee is Dr. Richard Yules.
